Pilot project for European research grants for journalists
The European Commission has launched a call for proposals for a pilot project for European research grants for journalists, which is intended to facilitate and
develop serious cross-border journalistic research at EU level. This call for proposals is organised with a view to select common investigation projects involving journalists from at least two Member States, with a cross-border or European dimension resulting from a national, regional or local perspective. The results of the journalistic investigation selected will be published in at least all of the Member States involved.
The objective of this Pilot Project is to test methods of supporting journalists doing cross- border stories in areas in which many traditional media do not always put resources,
and to encourage the emergence of a European public space.
The projects may cover any topic of concern in the public domain at any level: local, regional, national or international and may address any area of activity in society: public or private sector, politics, the economy, science, arts, culture or entertainment.
Budget and project duration:
The total budget earmarked for the co-financing of the projects under this call amounts to €1.1 million.
The amount of the grant may not exceed 75 % of the total eligible costs for each project.
Pilot projects have a limited duration (maximum two years), at the end of which a decision is made on whether they are to continue, on the same or similar lines, or not.
A team of two or more journalists, from at least two different Member States of the European Union, one of them being the team leader; Journalists from third countries may be part of the team provided that their presence is justified by the subject or the geographical scope of the project and that the condition of having at least two members from two different Member States is fulfilled.
Journalists should be professionals already working and available for work in any kind of media (press, photo press, daily or weekly press, radio, television, online media).
Students of journalism in their final graduate year, or post-graduates, may participate but not as team leaders. Teams may not be composed exclusively of students.
